Mercury recording artist Keith (born James Barry Keefer) earned his first recording contract with Columbia Records after camping out on the doorstep of A&R executive Jerry Ross. The resulting single, 1966's "Caravan of Lonely Men," was credited to Keith and the Admirations but failed to chart. When Ross moved to Mercury Records he took Keith with him and the singer soon appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 with his solo single, "Ain't Gonna Lie", which reached #35 in November 1966.
